Boy Scouts of America Troop 58 was founded in February 1954 under the sponsorship of the Holy Name of Jesus Society of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The troop was originally Troop 197. In 1969, the troop was chartered to Knights of Columbus Council 4068, Our Lady of Queenship Council, and the troop’s number was changed toTroop 58.

This trip on the A.T. had to be canceled due to the very bad stormy weather the day of our hike.

On our most recent hike (our third this year on the Appalachian Trail), there were seven people that participated. The Hikers were Jimmy Culp, Ben and Dan Grimme, Shane Mitchell, Shawn Hoffecker, Liam Surry and Dr. Surry.
During the hike, we ran into some unusual rock formations about 3 miles into the trip. There are some that are very large. Some stand 40 feet above the trail. In the AT book, some of these are found to be over 55 million years old! This trail was rated easy, but the first few miles seemed much steeper than even the first hike we made back in the beginning of the AT hikes. Luckily, the trail became flatter on the last 5 miles. There were no major problems.
