Boy Scouts of America Troop 58 was founded in February 1954 under the sponsorship of the Holy Name of Jesus Society of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The troop was originally Troop 197. In 1969, the troop was chartered to Knights of Columbus Council 4068, Our Lady of Queenship Council, and the troop’s number was changed toTroop 58.
In 2002, sponsorship of the troop changed again and Knights of Columbus Council 10685, Good Shepherd Council, gladly became the chartering unit of Troop 58. Our Council looks forward to a long and productive partnership with BSA Troop 58.
Since its founding more than 50 years ago, Troop 58 has been actively developing leadership skills in boys aged 10 to 18. More than seventy Scouts have earned Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. This list includes the Very Rev. William J. King, JCD, a priest in residence at Good Shepherd parish who is currently serving the Archdiocese of Atlanta as the judicial vicar for the Metropolitan Tribunal. Father King served as the judicial vicar of the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pa., since 1990 and has a distinguished record of priestly service in pastoral, academic and leadership roles.
Dr. John Surry is the Scoutmaster of Troop 58. Bernie Girman is the Committee Chairperson. Scout Jim Culp is the Senior Patrol Leader. The troop currently has 13 Scouts and 20 registered adult leaders.
